South Africa

If someone asks me what my favourite travel destination is – I tell them South Africa. It’s wild to me how one country can be so diverse and offer sooo many incredible bucket list experiences, beautiful nature, interesting culture and great food.

I’ve been in multiple National Parks and Private Game Reserves for safaris here and saw sooo many wild animals.

Even though I am not a city person, I LOVE Cape Town. Super stunning views, beaches and hikes. Tell me another city that can keep up with that!

The Garden Route roadtrip is one that almost every traveler has on their bucketlist for a good reason. I did the route twice, once even further to Kurger National Park and the Panorama Route.

Already can’t wait to go back and explore more of what South Africa has to offer!

General Information & Good To Know before visiting South Africa

Language:

South Africa has 12! official languages. English, Zulu and Afrikaans are the most common, while others are less used.

Currency:

South Africa Rand (ZAR), 1 Euro equals about 19 Rand and 1 USD about 16 Rand

Weather:

Varies across the country but generally the weather is very mild year-round. Each season has it’s own charm but the best time to visit is May – September for safaris during the dry and hot winter months and November to March for beaches and Cape Town.

Safety:

That’s unfortunately one of the not so great parts in South Africa. Crime rates are really high, especially in cities. You should not walk around alone at night and also don’t go on solo hikes around Cape Town. I personally never felt unsafe during my two long roadtrips through the country, but I know quite a few people that were robbed. So make sure to follow safety recommendations, especially in cities and always be aware of your surroundings.
