San Blas - my favorite place in Panama

Panama

Panama is home to amazing wildlife, incredible beaches, waterfalls and everything else you dream about for your tropical vacation!

I consider Panama a hidden gem of a country, as it is, compared to it´s popular neighbour Costa Rica for example, much less visited by tourists.

Some areas like Bocas del Toro and Boquete are quite touristy as well but there also many areas that are hardly visited by tourists.

You can easily spend a month in Panama without getting bored, there is so much to do and see all over the country.

My very favorite place in Panama are the San Blas Islands. This archipelago consists of over 300 islands and one is prettier than the other. White sand, crystal blue water and an intact reef. Exactly my thing! Check out my detailed blog post about visiting the San Blas Islands below.

General Information & Good To Know before visiting Panama

Language:

Spanish is the official language. English is mostly spoken in the more touristy areas of the country.

Currency:

USD (and Balboa coins, the previous currency of the country)

Weather:

It is possible to visit throughout the year. Dry season and best time to visit is from December to April.

Safety:

I felt very safe throughout the country. Some areas in bigger cities you might want to avoid but other than that the country is very safe. As usual, trust your gut and always be aware of your surroundings and you will be fine.
