Caye Caulker, Belize

Belize

Belize – a very small country in Central America that has actually surprised me with it´s diversity.

It has so much more to offer than beautiful beaches, crystal clear water and the 2nd largest barrier reef in the world.

There is so much to explore here – ancient ruins, jungle, colorful towns and also mountains and waterfalls! You better belize it!!

When visiting, make sure to also check out the main land as well and do not only stick to the islands!

But it is definitely also good to add a couple of islands to your Belize itinerary.  Such as  Caye Caulker and Ambergris Caye. In addition to those well known islands, there are also many smaller, less popular islands.

I heard a lot of good things about Tobacco Caye and I loved the private island rental Little Peter Oasis.

General Information & Good To Know before visiting Belize

Language:

English is the official language, which makes communication very easy. Many locals also speak creole.

Currency:

Belize Dollar – 1 USD/EUR  equals 2 Belize Dollars. US dollars are widely accepted as well.

Weather:

It is possible to visit throughout the year. Dry season and best time to visit is from January to May. Hurricane and rainy season from about June to November.

Safety:

I felt very safe throughout the country. Especially on the islands I visited. I have been reading about Belize City and Corozal not being the safest places. However, I think if you visit during the day and don´t walk around with super expensive clothes or accessories, I think you should be just fine. As always, use common sense and trust your gut and you will likely stay out of any trouble.

Other information:

BE AWARE OF BUGS. They have been SO MUCH worse here than in other countries I have visited. Not only mosquitos, but sand flies, bot flies, botlass flies and many more.
