Italy is easily one of my favourite countries in the world! It’s got everything from stunning mountains, lakes, beaches, fairytale towns and so much more!
It’s a very popular destination for tourists from all over the world but for a good reason. Apart from the many attractions and beautiful destinations in Italy, the food is also some of the world’s best.
The amount of picturesque places in Italy blows my mind every time and I am always looking forward to go back.
Some of my favourite regions, I highly recommend everyone visiting at least once are: The Dolomites, Lake Garda, Cinque Terre, Tuscany, Puglia, Amalfi, Lake Como, Julian Alps, Rome, Emilia-Romagna.
Yes, many of these are very popular and pretty packed in high season, this is why traveling in low season is the best advice I can give you. For example – I have been to Amalfi in February and had great weather and zero crowds.
General Information & Good To Know before visiting Italy
Language:
Italian. English is mostly spoken in touristy areas.
Currency:
Euro
Weather:
Weather in Italy is can be very different depending on the region you are visiting. In the Dolomites for example, winter are very cold with lots of snow but Sicily in the South still got very mild temperatures. Generally, most of Italy has very hot summers, I much prefer spring and autumn with colder temperatures and less crowds.
Safety:
Italy is generally a very safe country. In the larger cities and some specific regions, especially further South, there can be a lot of petty crime. Especially car break-ins and phone theft are quite common in places. I personally always felt super safe, after spending multiple weeks in Italy every year for the last few years. Being aware of your surroundings and always listening to your gut is the best way to avoid any incidents.
